Lost in the Woods

Located on a tranquil resort surrounded by spectacular nature reserves, this contemporary holiday home is perfectly positioned for exploring the natural beauty of Otterlo. Designed to allow in as much natural light as possible, the interior makes use of floor-to-ceiling glass and sliding doors that lead out onto lush green gardens. Start your days by opening them up to allow the cool breeze to rush through the house while you enjoy a cup of coffee, before heading out to see what the rest of the resort has to offer.

With a communal swimming pool at your disposal, an early morning dip is a great way to start the day feeling refreshed. The De Hoge Veluwe National Park is just 15km away, which is great for scenic walks and bike rides thanks to its diverse landscapes and wildlife. We're talking dense forests, grassland and sand drifts – ideal if you want to experience as much nature as possible in one place. If you don't feel like driving, however, the resort has a pretty lake running through it, where you can kayak or simply wander the shores and enjoy the scenery. 

When you return home after a day of adventure, the patio is the place to be. Turn on the outdoor fireplace, grab a blanket and get comfy on the outdoor sofa with a glass of wine, as the wind rustles through the flowers and branches around you.

This modern, detached, single-storey home is located within a holiday park, on the banks of Het Zwarte Schaar and the river Ijssel. L-shaped and light filled, thanks to near floor to ceiling glass windows, this comfortable home features an open plan kitchen and dining cum living room complete with cosy fireplace. Sliding glass doors open out from the living room onto the terrace and surrounding greenery of the garden – the perfect place to relax or watch the kids play.

Promising fun for the whole family, this home’s holiday park location offers access to an outdoor communal pool and children’s playground as well as a guests only gym, sauna and steam room. Why not rent bikes or even a boat and set off on a little adventure? Alternatively, spend afternoon walking or fishing along the banks of the river before making a beeline for the park’s restaurant and bar come lunch or dinner time. For a taste of Netherlandish culture Zutphen, one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands is only 20km away. Home to 450 national monuments as well as historic castles, boutique shops and artisan eateries, you’ll be spoilt for choice when choosing how to spend your downtime.

Perched on the glistening banks of the Lower Rhine and overlooking a large recreational lake, it's the perfect choice for watersports enthusiasts. You'll find an abundance of communal facilities here, including a swimming area, water trampolines, a large playground for the little ones and an on-site brasserie for a romantic lakeside date night.

From the outset, this home promises comfort and style with its sleek monochrome facade. Surrounded by a raised deck, furnished with ample lounge seating, it beckons you to unwind in the splendour of your surroundings. The interior is contemporary and inviting, cloaked in warm neutral tones and adorned with stylish decor. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer picturesque views of the water while ushering in floods of natural light, creating a free-flowing ambience primed for relaxation. 

After a restful slumber, spend mornings roosted on the terrace, sipping coffee in the sunshine before a day of adventure. Here, you're a nineteen-minute stroll from the leafy town of Maurik and surrounded by Gelderland's breathtaking natural beauty. Enjoy long walks through the countryside, take a forty-minute drive to the city of Arnhem or sail away to Utrecht's marina.

Amber Oak

Perched on the banks of the Markermeer, this eco-friendly holiday resort is a sweet retreat in the great outdoors. Between cycling across the rolling fields, sailing along the steady water and strolling through the countryside, you'll never be short on adventures in the fresh air. Add in the playground ideal for little ones, on-site bicycle rentals and idyllic views and we think it's a winner. 

Better still, you can enjoy a cosy stay without leaving a big carbon footprint. There's no gas hook-up here – solar panels power the whole home – and it's a car-free resort, encouraging you to explore your surroundings on foot. 

After a wander, chill out in the stylish living room or take it easy and relax on the patio, instead. If it were up to us, we'd spend every evening out there, sipping cocktails and admiring the Netherlands sunset. 

Fancy a change of pace? Head to Hoorn, a quintessential Dutch town only 12km away. There you'll find independent boutiques, antique stores and Saturday market stalls perfect for browsing and plenty of restaurants to try when you grow peckish. We think it's an excellent option for a day trip. 

Markermeer Meadows

Endless golden dunes and beach cabanas await at this ultra-chic seaside resort apartment surrounded by pine-scented forests and just a one-kilometre flip-flop away from the sandy shores.

Set in the Zeeland province and consisting of just ninety-one luxurious villas and apartments (trust us, that's small-scale by Dutch holiday park standards), there's an intimate village-like feel to this place that families will love. Grab a bite to eat at the stylish bar and restaurant, followed by pudding from the ice-cream parlour. Or swing by the on-site shop or fishmongers to whip up something back at home. 

Once you're suitably refuelled, grab your bucket and spades (the onsite shop can help with those too) and head to the beach for lazy afternoons of picnicking, kite flying, and sandcastle making. Or hop on a bike to explore the surrounding woodland paths – the bike hire stall is nearby. 

You can always nip back to the immaculately-styled apartment if you fancy a cuppa and rest up – best savoured from that charming balcony or curled up in the living space where underfloor heating and scatter cushions ramp up the cosy factor.

If you fancy a dose of culture, the historic city of Middelburg is just a fifteen-minute drive away. Or hop over to Belgium for a jaunt around the harbour town of Antwerp and the medieval city of Ghent. Just think of the places you'll go.

Salt & Pine

It might not fit everybody's definition of the word, but we think this wooden home within a holiday park in the Veluwe region is really rather romantic.

Perfectly sized for a couple – or a solo traveller for that matter – it's easy to picture cosy evenings snuggled up by the pellet fire or morning coffees on the small terrace out through the glass doors. The limited kitchen and the bed on the mezzanine level might put some off, but those with a keen sense of adventure will be willing to overlook this.

That's because there's plenty to do in the surrounding area, from bracing walks through the National Park Veluwezoom and along the banks of the Het Zwarte Schaar to day trips to the historic city of Arnhem. And last but not least, the surrounding holiday park has a swimming pool ready and waiting for fun and frolics in the warmer months.

All Creatures Great & Small

This family-friendly home on a much-loved holiday park is the perfect place for a trip with your nearest and dearest. With a great range of amenities and close proximity to the beach, it's the ideal place to get into the vacation state of mind. 

Step inside, and you'll find a tranquil space cloaked in soothing tones where you can really relax. The sofa is comfy, but if the weather is warm you'll probably want to head outside to enjoy a sundowner in the fresh air. When you get hungry you can whip up your favourite dishes in the kitchen, but if you'd rather someone else does the cooking then pay a visit to the on-site restaurant. And, there's also an indoor swimming pool and outdoor play area, so the kids can have fun playing and making some new friends. 

Strand Noordwijk Aan Zee, a long, sandy beach, is only a few minutes away from the home on foot. There you can go for long coastal walks, relax on the sand, or even take a dip if you're feeling brave. Golfers can practice their swing on the local course, just a five-minute drive away, and keen cyclists can head inland to explore the surrounding countryside. 

Show Your Smile

If you're a small family who loves exploring the beauty of nature, this cosy home is perfect for you. Nearby to Veluwe National Park and just a short stroll away from a lush forest, it's tailor-made for wholesome escapes in stunning scenery. 

The house itself is simple yet cosy – think floods of natural light radiating an open-plan living space. Velvet sofas and wooden tables bring a luxury element to the room, sewn together by light, wooden flooring. 

A white kitchen of contemporary quality lays adjacent to the dining table, so you can keep the cook company whilst they rustle up some haring to share. On the sunnier evenings, dine alfresco on the cute terrace table, enjoying each bite in the fresh, country air. 

If you prefer dining out, there are many restaurants in the town centre, serving both local and international menus. We suggest heading there in the evening after a tiring day traversing the rugged landscape on two wheels or two feet.
